The starting price of the Slate truck/SUV has changed from the expected “around $20,000” to “mid-twenties”. The increase is due to the elimination of the $7500 EV tax credit which will sunset in the latter part of 2025. Slate will not be the only EV affected by the credit’s demise, but it remains to be seen what the full impact will be. Prior changes to legislation had imposed stricter limitations on the criteria required to claim the credit and some EVs were exempted from the credit altogether. Dealer and manufacturer incentives may increase to offset the loss of the credit to keep sales viable in the meantime while the industry as a whole plans for a more uncertain future.
